Building materials containing asbestos were widely used from the 1960s onwards and and were only banned in 1999.  If your home was built or refurbished before 1999, it may contain asbestos materials.  There are various places in and around your home that may have asbestos-containing materials such as floor tiles, insulating board and some specialist coatings.

Don’t be alarmed though, asbestos is relatively harmless if it is not disturbed.  It is only when it becomes airborne that it becomes dangerous.  This is why we advise that you get a full asbestos survey completed before any building work on your home is started. We also conduct surveys for estate agents and builders as part of the buying process, providing added reassurance for the buyer. Prices for domestic households start from £95 plus VAT for a sample test and from £250 plus VAT for a survey.
